You want to create a friendship and bond with the woman who is to marry your son. This will help all involved if everyone loves each other and are close friends. So many family relationships start off bad and hurt feeling are hard to mend. Therefore, you want no chance of this happening to your family. Start right show love as well as affection to the new member of the family. Tell this young woman you want the both of you to be close and be able to talk about anything to each other. This will be a positive beginning towards a strong friendship with her. She is marrying your son not taking him completely away from you and your family. She is no threat to you or the relationship you currently have with your son. This young woman will add to your family things like her family traditions and the ways she and her family has done things. People all have different ways of doing things or celebrating family events and holidays. Adding new activities to your family's way of celebrating is a positive form of interacting with each other. Show her you are open to any suggestions she has and then do things her way one year. The next year you can show her the way your family does its celebrating and so on. Meeting a new family member half way will do much more than the two of you butting heads both wanting things the old same way every time. Your son will love the fact that you truly accept this young woman into the family. As well as you want her opinion involving family decisions and family events. He will not constantly have to keep the piece or forced to choose a side then catch it from the other side because of his decision. No son wants to choose family over his own wife. Relationships like this are ugly environments in which to live and do not last long. As a mother, you want your children to be happy so give in a little and his new bride will give as well. This way you will in turn have the daughter you always wanted and a happy son because you are friends with his new wife.
